Guide
Combine several PDFs into one file
Use Merge PDF when you have separate scans, chapters, or signed pages that belong in a single packet.
How to merge PDF files
Merging is for packets that started life as more than one file: a cover letter plus a CV, a statement plus receipts, or lecture slides split across weeks. Instead of printing and scanning everything again, this tool stacks the pages in the order you choose.
Add two or more PDFs, then drag the list if the automatic order is wrong. The first item in the list is page 1 of the result. Encrypted files may fail until you unlock them with the password you are allowed to use.
The merge runs in your browser with pdf-lib. Pages are copied, not re-typeset, so fonts and vector drawings stay as they were. Very large sets of scans can take a while on a phone; a desktop browser usually finishes faster.
- Open Merge PDF and add at least two PDF files. You can drop them together or add them one after another.
- Drag the file list so the files sit in the order you want in the final document. The first file in the list becomes the first section of the merged PDF.
- Click Merge PDFs. The browser copies every page into a new document on your device.
- Download the combined PDF. Keep the originals if you still need the separate files.
What merging does (and does not do)
The output is a new PDF whose page sequence follows your file list. Bookmarks and some interactive form state in the source files may not survive a copy-pages merge, which is normal for this kind of client-side join.
If you only need a few pages from a long file, extract those pages with Split PDF first, then merge the smaller files. That keeps the result easier to email.
- Joins two or more PDFs into one downloadable file.
- Lets you reorder files before combining them.
- Copies existing pages instead of converting them to images.
- Does not flatten form fields into a new layout or OCR scanned text.
- Does not upload the documents to a SmartPDFConvert conversion server.
Privacy when you merge files
The PDFs you drop here are read in the browser so pages can be copied into a new document. SmartPDFConvert does not receive the file bytes on a conversion API.
A merged packet can still contain anything that was in the sources, including hidden metadata. Do not merge files you are not allowed to combine. How we handle files is described in the Privacy Policy.
Frequently asked questions
There is no site-imposed credit limit. The practical limit is your device memory and the size of the files. If the tab freezes, merge in smaller batches, then merge those results.
Yes. Each page is copied at its original size. Mixing A4 and letter pages in one file is allowed; printers may then scale some pages.
If the file is encrypted, unlock it first with Unlock PDF using a password you are authorized to use, then merge the unlocked copy.
