Guide
Remove a PDF password you are allowed to use
Open a file you own or are authorized to change by entering its password, then save an unlocked copy.
How to unlock a PDF
This tool is for people who forgot that a file is still encrypted after they typed the password in a viewer, or who need an unlocked copy for a printer that cannot prompt. It is not a service for breaking other people’s encryption.
You must type the existing password. There is no brute-force attack and no “remove protection without the password” path.
Decryption happens in the browser. We never receive the password or the file on a conversion server.
- Open Unlock PDF and add the encrypted PDF.
- Enter the owner or user password for that file. The field is required for protected files.
- Click Unlock PDF. If the password is wrong, the library will not decrypt the contents.
- Download the unlocked copy and store the password separately if you still need to control sharing.
Unlock rules
If you need to send a locked file, unlock, edit, then use Protect PDF to set a new password.
- Requires the correct password for encrypted files.
- Writes a new PDF without that password prompt.
- Does not crack unknown passwords.
- Intended only for files you are allowed to change.
- Local processing only.
Authorized use only
Do not use this to open documents you do not have rights to. Unauthorized circumvention of access controls can be illegal.
We do not log passwords. How we handle files is described in the Privacy Policy.
Frequently asked questions
No. There is no recovery inbox and no attack mode. Use a backup of an unencrypted export if you have one.
Enter the password that actually opens the file in a normal viewer. If opening works but printing is blocked, that is an owner-permission issue; unlocking with the owner password (if you have it) is the legitimate path.
Anyone who gets the unlocked file can open it. Protect it again or send by a channel you trust.
